I was recently out for a meal and friends were discussing how they had seen a TV programme about Gastric Band Hypnosis and they were all really keen as it looked really easy. Eventually one of them asked me if I did it and I shook my head.
I do successfully do Hypnosis for Health Eating and Fitness but I never have and I never will do Hypnosis for Weight Loss. Neither will I EVER do Gastric Band Hypnotherapy. For me the gimmicks and the fads are just an utter wasted of time and money.
I feel very strongly about eating habits and their ramifications. I have worked with families of children suffering from Eating Disorders and I have worked with people who have struggled with Anorexia as teenagers*. I despair of Diets and Fads. People overeat for a reason. Until you have ascertained the root of the root of the problem you are never going to change anything, not long term anyway.
Let me give you an example – Ann ( not her real name) came to me for some ” Slimmer Fitter” Hypnosis. We worked through her eating habits and we spent a couple of hours discussing the real cause of why she was unhappy with the way she looked. Twenty years ago Ann lost her son when he was 4 years of age. The extra calories in her othewise healthy diet were coming from alcohol, that she drank, to make her evenings more bearable. We did a lot of work on her grief and her loss. We never once did any ” Weight Loss” hypnosis. Last time I spoke to Ann she remarked ” I feel like myself for the first time in years”. Now, if we hadn’t explored WHY Ann wanted to lose weight, we would never have reached the root of the problem.
I have used self hypnosis to help get me through Dry January and the Wild Nutrition 28 day Cleanse. I have added Bach Remedies to my water and I have had to call on every bit of willpower I possess. However in the space of 27 days I have lost 15.5 inches and 13 pounds. There was no miracle pill or surgery. It was just Clean Eating and Exercise. What I know about Nutrition would possibly fit on the back of a postage stamp so I have read every book recommended to me and more. I have recently read books & publications by Kara Rosen of Plenish , Amelia Freer and Henrietta Norton of Wild Nutrition. I follow Sarah Wilson, Madeleine Shaw, Ella Woodward, Jason Vale to name but a few on Social Media. The information overload is utterly exhausting. The conclusion I have come to is COMMON SENSE and this quote from the ever erudite Dr Seuss
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
